I still believe in solid content to get targeted online customers and without it you will not get far online. Twitter is everything but......... and can be spam in some cases.
But it is still a GIANT internet marketing tool!

I was slow at building my Twitter follower list and didn't use every Twitter list builder that came along because they looked to much like glorified spammers plus would not build a targeted list......

YUP! I missed the boat! My followers may be a little more targeted but I could have had millions by now if I had really tried! Would targeted make a difference here?

Targeting my profile and being careful with the follower adders has given my Twitter profile page a Google Page Rank of 4 though.....
But does Google Page Rank do anything for the everyday internet marketer?
We shall see my tweepoles!

Hi Scott considering that over 200+ top name internet marketing Gurus are on twitter and use it effectively says something to itself.

Does Google have meaningful impact on your twitter profile if you are an internet marketer? Since Google has changed how they are looking at their algorithms and their mindset of organizing the Worlds information ( are we on the verge of Web 3.0?) I am going to say a resounding YES!

It is also useful for the discerning marketer to understand what Google is really looking for:

- Credible inbound links from sources with credible inbound links

- Quality thematic content in their Twitter stream (jumping from dog training to affiliate marketing, to dieting in your twitter stream may get different results than sticking to one theme or topic of discussion… key phrases).

- Outbound links to credible sources.

But does this mean you need to get more untargeted followers on twitter? I am still going to say no.

When one understands how twitter works then staying with targeting who you are going to follow is very important, but as I show below it is how you use Twitter effectively that counts

Here are my suggestions on how to Get Google Page Rank on Twitter

1. Tweet in a way (key phrases) that readers and search engines know what you are talking about.

2. Be resourceful (links), and converse using @ (links)

3. When you are retweeted (inbound link) thank Tweeple.

4. Make sure your other social profiles have links to you Twitter profile

5. Last but not least it goes without saying, always error on the side of tweeting for followers not the search engines.

Just my take on Google Page Rank and Twitter

Best Regards :-)

Thanks Diane, Great info as always!

Things have changed sense I posted my original discussion but the basics are still the same.

Good original content linked correctly will rise to the top anywhere on he web. But The Good original content has to be something the people you are targeting will be interested in weather it be on Twitter or somewhere else.

Google page rank only helps you in Google indexing but the content and linking needed to rank well at Google is going to bring you more traffic even if there was no Google. Definitely something worth learning how to do! Even simple linking of your profiles and other content is something very seldom done by marketers.

Your comments on thanking those that re-tweet and Tweeting for followers, not search engines I think also apply everywhere online today.
The last few years has been just hammer everyone with spam and people including me are sick of it. Most will not even look at anything that mentions marketing.
The Greed stole the Trust of internet users. They will not read your copy unless it is interesting, informative, and what they were searching for.

Social marketing, Twitter and others make me laugh! Just get as many friends/followers as you can! They never get to know one of them, just send them ads (spam) and wonder why no one ever makes a purchase! You then have a dead list of thousands! I know.... I built one of those dead lists! I did it because I was told that was the way to make money online... I smartened up folks, but old habits die hard, it is still hard to say no to those friend requests I know are just building their dead list. Get to know some of the people on your lists and start sorting them into categories like "friends" "customers" "leaders" "hard workers" ect..... Make sure to have a "dead list" for those you didn't say no to....

People.... We have to Focus! Think! Ask our self. Would I read this or pass it by? Would I come back to this site? Would I sign up or purchase?

The competition everywhere online is massive! How many hundreds of millions of Twitter members are there? Who is thinking they can nab a search engine ranking with a few tweets? It takes work my friends! No matter where you are!

LOL, well my friend i hear the passion in your voice and the frustration many of us have had trying to get through to people that while the almighty list is important, it does no good to create a list of those who have no intention of doing anything but sit around? Am i being harsh? yep and for good reason. Most will just join anything be on a list and expect manna to drop from the sky.

The reality is that like anything you will ever do, it takes work ( as you said) and that includes making the "right" friends who will help you build whatever business you want to build?

I swear there are people out there where all they do is build a list...lol...no not really laughing... almost like an addiction...ouch!

I think that we need to educate people away from the list and its almighty numbers and start teaching people about social media in a way that people will understand. Then we teach people how to use the tools that are out there, so that regardless of the NUMBERS... the sale will happen...does this make sense?

Its up to the individual and maybe i am being harsh, but if they don't want to learn...not much anyone can do.

Good to banter with you again...been too long me thinks.

Now i need to slap myself on the wrist and get my page done properly...how...well sheesh i don't have a profile.... how will anyone know me without building a good profile...hmmm... wonder if anyone will get the hint ....

hope to talk to you soon...

Ah yes! I missed this! And Thank you... our Alexa traffic rank has jumped about 20,000 ....

I don't know.... do people want to listen and learn? Do they want to work together and really earn money? I hear that is what they want, I have even read it, but I hardly ever see them working toward their goals.......

The question of the day is.... I have read that some of the big companies have earned huge paychecks from their Twitter tweets...... I also hear all the hype of how everyone can do it using this system or that tool..... I have a larger than average Twitter following ( ha! LOL) that I have not targeted or marketed to correctly and have earned exactly $0 from.

Is it all hype or can it be Twittered?

While i was making some tea, i debated on whether to answer you diplomatically ( after all i am polite...lol ) or blunt.

To the first part of your comment.... the answer is...... NOPE! People go on line every single day and one of the first things they hear is...ITS EASY... then they talk to others and they are told...FOLLOW ME and like pied piper, people follow and listen to these very charming and what hurts even more, usually well meaning people who were "taught" the same mistakes over and over. Even when such people as yourself for example say...slow down...learn what you are doing, what you will find is..people will go..oh ok...and expect you to give them that magic pill or fix if you will and everything will be just fine....NOT!

Reality check... working on line is the same as working off line. there are so many components to having a job online, that it boggles the mind. The other reality check is that not everyone is a "marketer" fact of life folks and that's ok. What these same people fail to see is that there are many ways of getting your goals and you need to think outside the box. like anything, you have to learn your craft and learn it well.
If people really want to grow and learn, trust me, they will find a way, if they dont, then they wont!

Now for your question of the day....hmmm Scott a question for you? What was Twitter designed for? as you have in your subject line for this thread...micro blogging... emphasis on the blogging aspect. yes the big companies are making money, of that there is no doubt....but if you study how they tweet, what they tweet, the whole dynamics, you will note something...they as i put in one of my comments when you scroll up... they target the keywords, they put good info, they track everything, they are even entertaining, they use their links wisely. oh ya one other thing...they have branded recognition so people follow them as celebrities but also as customers. is this a hype...nope...they know what they are doing! So one keyword phrase that people need to learn and understand is how to brand themselves .

Not sure if you will agree with what i am saying, just my take on this.

are we having fun yet....lol lol lol

Agree with (almost) every word!

The hype is only the (marketers) marketing their new click to millions deal.
The keyword for people (big companies) making money on Twitter is their branded recognition or celebrity status (Grabs the traffic) plus the fact they have professional teams of bloggers and micro bloggers working 45 + hours a week. Not just little ol me..... lol

Fun? I can't stop and go to bed!... lol (I had better though.....) ;~)

Can't quit..... now...... lol

ya ya ya ya! If you do not brand yourself..... you have nothing....

I have branded myself with Loser on my forehead! Ha Ha Ha Ha! Yup Time for bed!

(the challenge sounds good! Bet it won't work! lol) Have a great night!
Just like everybody else. I read what I wanted to see. I completely did not comment on your statement "Twitter is a Micro Blog"...

Just like regular blogs. It was designed to communicate, only with short statements instead of longer posts on a normal blog. Both were made to make communicating to many on the internet easy. That is what attracted Internet marketers to them both....

To be seen anywhere on the web, you must know about SEO and search terms, That is the ONLY way any new people will find you without taking them by the hand and typing in your URL (so they don't get it wrong) so they actually see your Tweet, blog, or website.

Now social marketing changed this a little because marketers and Guru's could not rank high enough with their search terms to be seen..... Reason? Trillions of sites to beat out! Just to much work to get it done in a timely manner.
So they attacked social communities. This gave them less competition than shooting for the entire web. Plus, in the early days, it was easy to spam the hole community, most times the owners made something for loaning out their list.... and they all cashed in big time!

Then we the people got sick of it or just plain ran out of money!

OK.... now back to where we are today...
The guru's, ripoff marketers and mlm's have basically caused a lack of trust between people looking to buy something online and people selling. Where do you go when you buy something online now? I bet a big trusted brand name! This is why the big names can make money on twitter or anywhere else for that matter. They own the online trust. (They also have professional marketing teams working on their campaigns)

So how can we squeeze into the race?

1. constantly build your online presence and reputation.
2. build a team that you can trust and is doing # 1 so your combined web presence and good reputation is big enough to be seen. A team also can make short work of dominating search terms to get fast traffic making quick bucks on a hot term.

Or..... just fumble around the internet by ourselves running into each other and bouncing the other way never getting anywhere....
Hey Scott,

It appears you 2 have covered quite a bit of critical information here. Just as Scott said at the beginning, " Solid Content is required to get targeted online customers".

Sure the "Social Sites" may be good for finding prospects for your online ventures, but in my opinion, they are more for social inter-action than for business. To top that off, I'm seeing a lot of " Spamming" on a number of the Social Sites anymore. When I see them, or if they are sent to my message box, I immediately report then delete the message. Who want's to see a reply to an article someone has taken the time to research, compose and posted, only to find out that a commenter has taken the focus away from the author's efforts to display something offensive and completely out of context. I'm sure Twitter did not intend for this to happen, but there always someone waiting to take advantage of any opening they can find.

Myself, I still need to find more information on effectively using keywords, they are important as far as targeting both individuals and the search engins as well. The net end is to not only have your material read, but acted upon.

Hi Steven! Good to hear from you!

Spamming has been going on to long but probably always will. Just like you said, People will always look to take advantage where ever they can. On the other hand most people just delete it or filter it out of our email and never look at it anyway, taking the pain in the #** as a necessary evil of being online. Sites that do not clean spam off and diligently work spammers banned lose readers and members because they do not want the hassle.

Keywords or search terms are not as complicated as people think. They are just terms and phrases that best describe what you have written. Researching them is simply finding the ones that best describe your post or tweet that have the least competition and most actual searches. (well maybe not that simple)

Most search engines pick the terms when they spider now instead of relying on meta tags or tag lists. the terms selected by the search engines are the most frequently used words or phrases with more weight used for keywords and terms in titles and headlines. Simply do some research, find the best search terms for what you want to be searched for. write then down in a list so you can see them while you write your tweets or blog posts. be sure the most important ones are used in titles and headlines plus are used more in the copy.
Do not over saturate your copy with your terms. You want your tweets interesting and your blog posts easy to read and interesting enough to keep your readers attention. (The search engines are getting smarter and can tell if the flow of an article or post is right and even are checking gramer)

SEO is getting closer to smart writing than fancy webmaster tricks.
